Talking Books

I doubt if you have ever heard about the talking books. It is a special kind of book. It had been around for quite a while now. It is a book that had been invented for the purpose of serving the blind. Since they cannot see to be able to read, the content of the book is vocalized to their hearings.  The book had been found to be very useful all over the place. It was even used by the United States congress to serve blind members.  This write up will open our eyes to one or two facts about the talking books.

Talking Books – Where it started from

The idea of the talking books came up in 1929. It was discussed at length in the United States congress before it was finally approved and made available to the public. In 1949, the public came to be in possession of the talking books. Talking books were in form of records in those days. But they are now made in form of CDs. They can be played on any music player just like when you play any of your CDs. They are usually made of vinylite, which is also the material that is usually used by the United States army for making rain coat for soldiers.

As a rule, it was only the blind that were permitted to use talking books. But in 1955, the rule was broken when it as used by President Eisenhower it had also been made in different languages. Some of the languages used are English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and even Portuguese.

Further Usefulness of Talking Books

Gone are the days when the talking books are restricted only to the member o the congress. It is now available for all and sundry. In case your ward or any acquaintance is having eye problem and they are finding it difficult to read, you can get them the talking books. It will help them to get along with the information that could have eluded them.

It can be very useful in schools where some kids who are blind are finding it difficult to read. The parents or the school authority can decide to make the talking books available for them as a teaching aid. The audio books are there to  ensure to properly educate the kids.

The talking books are designed in such a way that the content is easy to understand. The words are spoken with good diction and the hearer will be able to easily discern what the content is. They are made with the full consideration of the age group that is expected to make use of them. In case you do not catch one or two words, you can always play it back to catch the words.
